Clint Eastwood is quietly offering a Spanish Colonial ranch in Pebble Beach for $9.75 million. Eastwood purchased the home in 1994 for $3.9 million.
The house, a 1920’s construction, is filled with remarkable elements of craftsmanship: carved doors, terra-cotta tile floors, inlaid-tile staircase, antique lighting and vaulted ceilings with raw exposed beams stand out as especially noteworthy. The dining room features an unpolished coffered ceiling, which makes the room simultaneously formal and easygoing. The layout of the home is a hallmark of the style; it rambles around a courtyard spotted with mature trees and flowering vines, and centered with a water feature. These elements, and its historical pedigree, give the home a demonstrable authenticity.
At around 7,000 square feet, the home contains five bedrooms and 6.5 baths; the bedrooms are all individual suites. The master bedroom contains a cozy loft office, and the master bath features hand-tiled borders on tub and mirrors. There are at least five fireplaces—each fireplace has an individual design: kiva, Andalusian, neoclassical. Arches are generally Andalusian, and recessed windows give the home a substantial feel. The kitchen, with offset cobalt blue-on-white tiled counter backsplash, and sky-lit vaulted ceiling, is especially tasteful.
There are staff quarters, and the four and a half acre property features a terrace/lounge area with views of Carmel Bay through the pines; Pebble Beach borders Carmel-by-the-Sea, where Eastwood was mayor for two years in the late 1980’s.
The home certainly saw a long list of influential actors, directors and artists as guests. Eastwood, a lifelong jazz piano player, certainly entertained a few musical legends.
Clint Eastwood’s most recent directorial effort was 2016’s ‘Sully,’ which starred Tom Hanks. Eastwood has directed over thirty films, including 1988’s ‘Bird,’ a Charlie Parker biopic, and 1990’s ‘White Hunter Black Heart,’ which features a protagonist modeled after seminal director John Huston.
