This Oscar De La Hoya designed wilderness retreat in Big Bear, California recently sold for $1.575 million. Hoya purchased the wooded property about twenty years ago, and built the training resort from the ground up. In 2007, mixed martial artist Tito Ortiz purchased it for $2.1 million, and owned it for a few years before passing it on in turn.

A rustic compound of pine logs and stone, the main structure and two cabins are situated on a little over an acre of land featuring mature pines and small stream. The total living space measures 7,200 square feet, with five bedrooms and 5.5 baths.

As expected, the interiors are a Cosmo Kramer fantasy: ‘Wood, Jerry. Wood.’ And more wood. With a fieldstone foundation, and partial fieldstone façade (on the main structure), fieldstone and slate fireplaces, and the majestic heads of slaughtered animals (included in the sale—but what are African antelope and water buffalo doing strolling into the crosshairs in Southern California?), the property certainly achieves its desired effect. Hemingway would’ve been happy here.

The main house is large, bright and open, and looks as much like a spa as a training camp. Which may not be exactly what Mickey Goldmill had in mind. But it looks awfully nice; even Mickey would’ve settled in to a nice spa treatment every now and then, if he’d had the chance. There are also bars, billiards rooms, and luxurious master suites with terraces or water features; master baths contains dual sinks and dual showers, and lots of marble.

‘Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya had a long career as a professional boxer, taking home an Olympic gold in 1992, as well as ten different world titles in six different weight classes during his prime.

Tito Ortiz was a UFC light heavyweight champion for three years running. He is also a professional wrestler.
