Gifted comedian and comic actor Russell Peters recently sold this Studio City home. A sprawling three floor design, with about 6,000 square feet of livable space, the 2004 construction was initially listed at $3 million about six months before it went under contract for $2.5 million. Peters purchased the home in 2009 for $1.96 million.
The interior is quite a postmodern vision. Surfaces of wildly varying geometric, lateral, metallic and linear patterns and designs shift from room to room. The sheer variety of competing motifs is striking; textures constantly alternate, many times jarringly. Warm and cool tones, hardwood flooring and chrome are used variously as well; the combinations are intended to elicit responses. Fascinating, a little discomforting, and provocative.
The home contains six bedrooms and six baths, with a master suite; the master contains a fireplace, private balcony, and expansive walk-in closet. There is a sauna in the master bathroom. Other amenities in the home include an elevator, and a home theater. Recessed ceilings provide a sense of space, but add a little to the stylistic surfeit.
The exterior of the property features a natural stone pool, spa and patio lounge area. The home incorporates a four-car garage, and features a circular motor court.
Russell Peters was born in Toronto. Initially utilizing both his talents as DJ and stand-up comedian, he chose wisely to focus on the latter, and is known for performing before large, sold-out venues. His style is compassionately satiric, arising out of the work of influences Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor and George Carlin, while defining its own individual identity.
