The 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is laden with cool gadgets, and one of the coolest has to be the HoloLamp, a portable augmented reality experience that serves up virtual reality without the need for clunky goggles.
Using a computer, cameras, and a pico projector, the HoloLamp creates a 3D world on all kinds of surfaces.
While early in its development, HoloLamp has the potential to expand beyond just gaming. The device’s creators see the HoloLamp as a way to create simulations of historical artifacts for educational purposes, build 3D avatars of humans to increase communication, and eventually use touch control to manipulate the 3D reality it builds.
Pre-orders for the HoloLamp will begin during the first quarter of this year. Pricing information will disclosed when the device is made available for pre-order.
