Laguna Beach has long been associated with stunning coastal homes that serve as luxurious getaways for the Hollywood elite. Now the waterfront estate that was originally built for historic members of the Tinsel Town elite, filmmaker Edward H. Griffith and his wife, actress America Chedister, has been listed for $16.995 million.
The 1920s-built compound consists of a 3,545-square-foot main house that has clearly been finished with a nautical theme. Nautical notes include the four-bedroom home being built with teak wood and a plethora of sea-inspired furnishings and finishes, porthole windows found in the kitchen, and there’s even a lighthouse on the property.
The estate also holds a pair of guesthouses, including one that has been crafted from the cabin of an old boat.
Another unique feature of the compound is a swimming pool carved into the Cliffside that is re-filled by actual ocean water. The property also comes with access to a remote beach.
The current and previous owners have made sure the estate is in ship-shape by remodeling and updating various facets of the property throughout the years.
Griffith was a director of many movies in the 1930s and 40s, with titles such as “The Sky’s the Limit,” “Holiday,” and “The Animal Kingdom.” Chedister made appearances in early movies such as “Dawn of the East” and “Scrambled Wives.”
