This Encino home was recently purchased by actors Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof. The purchase price for the poured concrete and glass house on three acres was $7.95 million.
The house is an interesting amalgam of industrial-influenced sterility and aspiring Japanese inspiration. Large and dark, the home feels, on occasion, more than a little claustrophobic, an unusual effect for a house featuring such abundant space. Predominant grey and dark brown tones, and a reliance on the hard stylistic vision of glass, concrete and the metallic give the house a somewhat vacant, chilly appeal. It is a home waiting to come alive.
Measuring 5,500 square feet, with five bedrooms and 6.5 baths, the house features a great room with fireplace; a media room with fireplace; a kitchen and attached breakfast room, both with vaulted ceilings and glass walls; and a master suite with its own den, and bath with steel soaking tub and tandem shower.
The exterior of the property includes the requisite pool—in keeping with the overall aesthetic, in concrete—as well as a guest house and tennis court. The San Fernando Valley views provide a nice balance to the rigid overall feel of the home. The landscaped grounds, too, are pleasantly sylvan, with a variety of flora allowing for plenty of room to roam. Taken together, the house, and its acreage, offer both restraint and release.
Alyson Hannigan has enjoyed a long career as an actress; although best known for her role as Willow in the hit television series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ she has also appeared in numerous films, including the ‘American Pie’ franchise. This year, she starred in the romantic comedy ‘Do You Take This Man.’
Alexis Denisof is also best known for his role in ‘Buffy.’ He has also appeared in ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘Grimm.’
