For those of you who missed your chance to pick up a Veyron before the limited production run was exhausted, here’s another chance.
This example of the Bugatti hypercar is currently available for sale in Beverly Hills; its purchaser opted for Bugatti’s owner-customized Configurator, decking out the car in a dramatic two-tone red-on-black. The interior is slate grey.
The Veyron’s 8L, 16-cylinder engine pushes about 1,000 horsepower and boasts ten radiators to cool all that combustive kinetic energy. It features a seven-speed transmission and, although this newest incarnation of Bugatti is owned by the Volkswagen Group, the transmission of the Veyron was built by British automotive specialist Ricardo PLC. The transmission response time is less than 150 ms. The Veyron’s four turbochargers can propel the car to an astonishing top speed of over 250MPH.
The Veyron—and its young successor, the Chiron, which went on sale earlier this year—is perhaps the most unabashed example of a hypercar status symbol to ever appear on the open market. Hailed by some as the most acute representation of high-performance design and development in the history of the automobile, the company has also been criticized for marketing an adolescent toy for the billionaire set. Those who drive the vehicles, however, are invariably enthralled by their speed, responsiveness, and luxurious comfort, indicating that Bugatti has rejuvenated the name, while retaining the ethos of Ettore Bugatti’s original jazz-age vision.
This particular example—one of 450 completed by the company in total, and one of 78 built in 2008—has logged less than 7000 miles. It is available from dealer O’Gara Coach in Beverly Hills. Price is available on request but, considering the collectability of the model, the condition, and the original price tag of around $1.5 million, it may be assumed that the cost to drive it away will be considerable.
