This is Martin’s two millionth instrument.

And CF Martin and Co., known for perfecting the ‘dreadnaught’ style acoustic guitar favored especially by players of bluegrass, folk and country music, has pulled out all the stops with this stunning, investment grade take on their classic D-45 model.

The motif is time, or the measurement of it, or the 180 years the luthiery has been in business. To complete the statement, Martin teamed up with RGM Watch Company—like Martin, singular in their field as a lone example of American craftsmanship—to render the instrument as an artistic representation about how we measure and mark time.

As far as the cosmetics of the guitar are concerned, they’re…well, striking. The inlay work is astonishing, with stone, pearl, bloodwood, koa, steel and birdseye maple decorating the guitar front, back, fretboard and headstock.

The guitar is not for sale, at least not as of now. Martin is offering an extremely limited number of guitars built with the same inspiration and aesthetic approach, however; that model, the D200 Deluxe, is offered with a companion piece: the custom RGM watch included with the sale.

The D200 Deluxe is limited to fifty examples, and they are priced accordingly, at a shadow under $150K. With a back and sides of ultimate tone-wood Brazilian rosewood, and a top crafted from figured Englemann spruce, the D200 Deluxe is still made to be played—albeit carefully.
