Ben Carson’s West Palm Beach house is on the market. Pricing it at $1.2 million, the new HUD secretary and art-lover is looking to profit about a half a million dollars on the sale.
The ex-neurosurgeon purchased the five-bedroom, 5-bath house in 2013 for $775K. It fits the bill for a tight West Palm fit, its 6,155 square feet packed into a small lot. Mr. Carson and wife Lacena purchased the home in 2013 for $755K. The property sits on the Ibis gated community, a golf and country club, and includes a membership to the club.
The house is typically Mediterranean in style, which certainly isn’t unusual for the area. The façade, entrance, and open living area are very open; soaring 22-foot ceilings grace the main living space. Of course, abundant glass suits the Sunshine State; the rear of the home boasts a solarium. A maple entertainment room features inset shelving.
The house is Mediterranean villa with baroque and occasionally contemporary sympathies; marble columns and accents offer cosmetic support of an uneasy stylistic alliance. The kitchen is spacious and clean, with large slabs of granite for countertops. The master suite features a bath centered with a soaking tub and spa.
The exterior of the house is extremely limited, as the house takes full advantage of the lot size. The requisite pool is squeezed in the rear.
Yale man Ben Carson graduated from University of Michigan Med, and was director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins until his retirement, at which point he entered politics; while a gifted physician and concerned social activist, some of Carson’s conservative socio-political statements have been less successful. His wife Lacena ‘Candy’ Carson is a noted author and businesswoman.
