When Leica came out with its T camera a couple of years ago, it was touted as a starter-level digital mirrorless camera, but it wasn’t a smash hit due to some factors like iffy smartphone syncing and slow autofocus.
Now, the German camera brand has come out with its new TL model—a better attempt to truly bring an entry-level luxury interchangeable lens camera to the market. The TL is slated to cost as much as its predecessor, the T, with the camera body fetching a $1,695 price tag, and carrying a price of around $3,200 when bundled with a lens.

Aesthetically and internally, the TL is a lot like the T, with the same large touchscreen display panel on the back, a similar body design with slightly softer edges, and the same size APS-C sensor.
Leica gave the TL a retooled autofocus system, making it much faster than the original model, especially when it is in AF-C (continuous autofocus) mode.
The TL fixes the Leica T’s problem of pairing to smartphones by joining the crowd and creating its own Wi-Fi hotspot to make transferring any type of footage a breeze. There’s even a companion app for Android phones now, too.
For those looking to break into the Leica market, the TL seems like the perfect model to get started with.
