Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman’s Beverly Hills estate has come quietly up for sale; word-of-mouth is apparently enough for the tastefully escapist property, which conveys a sense of fairy-tale timelessness. The price tag for enchantment, in this case, is $12.5 million.

The interior of the Tuscan-style villa suggests a small historical survey of Southern Californian design, with Mediterranean motifs, and balance of plentiful natural light and dark wood. If a single trope of interior design is evident, it’s rusticity: terra-cotta tile, stone, wrought iron, and raw wood abound. There is a feeling of authenticity throughout.  The 4,300 square-foot residence offers six individualistic fireplaces, five bedrooms, and six bathrooms. A spiral staircase leads to a bell-tower, currently in use as a creative-workspace; a brick floor lends a sense of stability, and arched windows present a 360-degree view of city and country.

The grounds are verdant and romantic. Double-doors and a small stone staircase invite visitors onto the terrace, which is enclosed enough to feel cozy, but open enough to be comfortably expansive. The Roman-style pool blends symmetry and lagoon secrecy. Green greets the eye everywhere, from poolside to terrace to entryway.

Goldsman acquired the estate in 2007 from Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis for a little over $7 million; Kiedis, in turn, purchased it in 2004 through his Happy House Trust, paying a little over $4.6 million.

Goldsman, who scripted 2002’s ‘A Beautiful Mind’ to Oscar-winning acclaim, has been involved in numerous high-profile film and television projects, including Joel Schumacher’s 1996 adaptation of ‘A Time to Kill,’ Ron Howard’s 2005 boxing drama ‘Cinderella Man,’ and Peter Berg’s 2013 war film ‘Lone Survivor.’
