After moving to a newly representative home in Laurel Canyon, Jared Leto is selling his house in the Hollywood Hills, asking price a shade under two million. The actor and musician—best known for an Oscar-winning turn in ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ and a most recent and rather terrifying appearance in the hit film ‘Suicide Squad’—purchased it in 2006 for $1.65 million, and is now marketing it at $1.999 million.
The 4,021 square-foot, .29 acre property is most striking outside the residence, with lush vines manipulated to aggressively overwhelm the house, and landscaping that favors the privacy and appeal provided by variegated natural growth. The residence itself features four bedrooms and three baths—two of each comprise master suites—and a great deal of dark wood and slate. There’s an entertainment room with wet bar, substantial living room with fireplace, and spacious kitchen. The backyard pool suite, and the staircase descending to it, uses slate accent to balance interior and exterior. The elements are certainly there for a new owner to work with.
In 2014, Leto quietly purchased his new home, the Lookout Mountain Laboratory, for $5 million, and he’s since been converting it into a personal statement. The property, a onetime cold war U.S. Government compound and information and propaganda clearinghouse for U.S. nuclear testing, has been transformed bohemian out of bureaucratic, and is eclectic but generally tasteful, with white and grey slate flooring, Persian carpets, a Tuscan-inspired kitchen, and an atmospheric blend of new and original light fixtures; evident throughout is an earnest desire to instill curiosity in visitors.
Aside from the aforementioned, Jared Leto took leading roles in films ‘Requiem for a Dream,’ ‘Panic Room,’ and ‘Chapter 27,’ a film about Mark David Chapman, the fan of John Lennon and J.D. Salinger who shot the former to death, thereby vindicating the latter’s reclusive lifestyle. Leto is also a pop-rock musician and songwriter, and a member of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars; the group has enjoyed considerable commercial success, selling millions of albums worldwide, and playing larger venues all over the world.
