Audi showed the world its new A5 coupe a little while back, and now the German automaker has revealed the cabriolet versions of its A5 and S5 models.
The new A5 Cabriolet is almost two inches longer than its predecessor. The front end and rear window are flatter, with the former boasting a Singleframe grille, to complete the lean and mean aesthetic of the drop-top model.
The soft top of the cabriolet models is easier to use than ever before with a new one-touch function. By flicking a switch, the top will automatically open in just 15 seconds or close in only 18 seconds, with the mechanism working at speeds of up to 31 mph.
Audi will give the A5 and S5 Cabriolet models the same engine offerings as the coupe editions of the vehicles. The A5 will come with a 2.0-liter TFSI engine that makes 252 horsepower, a 2.0-liter TDI that packs 190 ponies, and a 3.0-liter TDI that boasts 218.
The S5 version is equipped with a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 powerplant that hits 354 hp, over 20 horses more than the previous model. The S5 Cabriolet hits 62 mph from a stop in just 5.1 seconds, 0.4 seconds slower than the hardtop S5.
American buyers will likely only see the 252-hp 2.0-liter TFSI in the A5 Cabriolet, and the 3.0-liter, 354-hp TFSI for the S5. U.S. Audi dealerships will likely have the new convertible models in time for the 2018 model lineup after they take over sales floors for the German brand this upcoming March.
