The Encino, California, home of late “The Sound of Music” star Charmian Carr has been listed for $1.7 million.
The home in question is a 1957-built Mellenthin-style complete with wood siding and birdhouse and dovecote ornamentations. Including later-added additions, Carr’s former house measures in at 4,244 square feet and has a total of seven bedrooms and five bathrooms.
Carr’s home features herringbone wood flooring, custom cabinetry, wood paneling, exposed beams, and used brick that gives the home a certain middle-of-the-mountains feel one could expect from the home of a “Sound of Music” star.
The Carr listing does need some tender love and care, but it has been very strategically listed to allow for a single family to afford the home while making it too expensive for a developer to realistically tear it down and build it anew.
After leaving the entertainment industry shortly following her role in “The Sound of Music,” the late Carr devoted her life to her family and the interior design business she started, Charmian Carr Designs. Her clientele included Michael Jackson and other faces of the Hollywood elite.
