MB&F has a penchant for adding a futuristic space-like flair to many of the custom pieces it makes, as seen with its robot clock, starfighting music box, and HM6 Space Pirate wrist watch.

Now Maximilian Büsser’s company has done it again, this time with its new Astrograph pen, which was made in collaboration with Caran d’Ache. The incredible new pen took four years to develop before finally lifting off the ground.

While this new Astrograph pen is definitely made to fit right along with MB&F’s other outer space-like items, it is still definitely the type of beautifully crafted writing instrument that one would expect from Caran d’Ache.

Most fountain pens boast as few as five and up to normally about 20 individual components, but in true space and MB&F fashion, the new Astrograph pen has almost 100 finely machined and hand-finished components. This construction makes it nearly as much of a pen as it is a working spaceship, seen directly with the landing fins that can be lowered with a simple flick of a switch.

The meticulously crafted writing instrument would make an especially thoughtful holiday gift if you count Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, or Richard Branson among your close friends. MB&F and Caran d’Ache have limited the Astrograph pen to only 99 examples, with each carrying a $19,900 price tag.
