The venture-capital trailblazer Tom Perkins, one of the modern builders of Silicon Valley and a former Compaq, HP and News Corp. board member, died earlier this year at the age of 84, leaving behind a stately French Provincial mansion in California. That mansion is now set to hit the market for $16.5 million, which we can only assume is a bit more than he paid for it back in the ‘70s.
Located 17 miles north of San Francisco in Marin County, the 8,885-square-foot, 1920s-built home comes with six bedrooms including a two-bedroom children’s wing.
Vaulted, boxed beam ceilings include delicate, white-on-white patterns in the wood-paneled formal living room, whose picture windows offer stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. Also included: an 18-seat formal dining room, a kitchen cut into two nooks by a wall of white cabinets, a home office featuring a marble fireplace and plenty of outdoor seating on the home’s multiple decks.
In addition to the swimming pool, there’s also a pool house and a rose garden on the three-quarter acre grounds, enclosed by a stone gate. Unfortunately, Perkins’ spot-on furniture and personal art collection will not be included in the sale. To get a hold of those, you’ll have to attend an auction later in the fall.
