A year ago German automaker Audi debuted its most powerful production model ever, the R8 V10 Plus. Now the manufacturer has given fans of its R8 lineup a little more flair with the release of its new convertible example, the R8 Spyder.
Despite losing the top, the R8 Spyder is still insanely powerful. The 5.2-liter V10 of the car pumps out 553 horsepower, and that sheer power paired with Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive system gives the Spyder a stop-to-62 mph split of 3.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 197 mph.
The exterior design and curves offer a sleek aesthetic, with the multiple-layer fabric roof readily available to deploy.
Audi made the R8 Spyder 55 percent more rigid than the coupe model to account for dropping the top. But what should be noted is that this process only added 110 pounds to the convertible version of the beautiful sports car.
The R8 Spyder starts at $175,000.
