TV producer David Crane made off like a bandit with the proceeds from his hit show Friends, amassing a personal fortune estimated at $200 million. Now, he and partner Jeffrey Klarik—with whom he collaborated on the Showtime series Episodes—are looking for a $29.9 million payday on the Art Deco penthouse they spent five years putting together.
The Los Angeles home is a vision of opulent comfort. Measuring in at 5,300 square feet on the 38th floor of a Century City condo building, it comes with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and three terraces with mountain and city views. Rich wood paneling is accented with patterned wallpapers and carpets, alabaster and bronze sconces and luscious stone finishes on the fireplace and in the kitchen.
The unit comes fully furnished, with 1930s-era antiques and artwork, among which the pièce de résistance is a completely restored grand piano in the open-plan living room. Also included are glass panels from the SS Normandie, Belgian black marble inlays in the entry hall and a black-and-gold master bathroom worthy of Jay Gatsby.
Klarik and Crane paid $12.2 million for the condo four years ago, pouring themselves into the period refurbishment: they had the layout and finishes custom-designed, and new pieces—including the home’s circular wet bar—were custom-built to fit into the Art Deco theme.
