BMW has come out with the seventh generation of its 5 Series, and the brand new edition of the car definitely picked up a fresh upgrade to the design.
The 2018 5 Series now features a chrome-enclosed kidney grille with a pair of elongated headlights that makes the front end look wider, while the rear end of the car has been changed to make it look like it has a lower center of gravity.
All in all, the new 5 Series doesn’t look too much different than the outgoing version. It is slightly larger, but thanks to new lightweight manufacturing materials, the 5-Series is almost 150 pounds lighter than the last iteration.
The 5 Series now comes with the option to add BMW’s new gesture-controlled infotainment system that debuted on the German brand’s 7 Series lineup last year. For those not wanting to switch over, a 10.2-inch touchscreen and voice controlled system come readily available on the 5 Series.
When the seventh gen of the 5 Series launches it will come in two model variations, the 530i and the 540i. The 530i comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
BMW’s 540i gains its power from a 3.0-liter straight-six cylinder engine that makes 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.
Both models will come standard with rear-wheel drive, but BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system can be added to the duo for an added cost.
The new 2017, 7th generation 5 Series will hit salesroom floors beginning in February.
