BMW has reached out to Garage Italia Customs to team up and create a pair of one-off custom vehicles, the German brand’s i8 and i3 Crossfade Special Editions.
The duo showed off the specially created vehicles at the recent 2016 Paris Motor Show to celebrate hybrid cars.
What Garage Italia Customs did was add its distinct flair, leaving tradition in the past in favor of styling meant for the digital age. The BMW hybrids now boast ascending geometric shapes with a unique color progression to create a blended, yet clearly futuristic aesthetic.
The Italian tuner also decked out the interiors of BMW’s hybrid duo. The i8 earned Foglizzo leather seats with protonic blue and black Alcantara accents, and Garage Italia Customs stitched up the i3 with Alcantara and a cutting-edge textile.
Garage Italia Customs took its inspiration from 19th-century art features such as pointillism, pop art, and divisionism.
The base of the design is optical color mixing theory, which illustrates how the brain likes to blend colors with their adjacent color. Using this theory, BMW and the tuner have created these Crossfade models to be instantly pleasing to the eye.
