It’s another day another addition to the compound for Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX. Over the course of the last four years, the tech billionaire has been quietly compiling Bel Air mansions, spending until recently a total of $48.05 million on four homes within spitting distance of each other.
Musk, who has a reported net worth of $11.5 billion, recently added a $24.25 million mansion on the same street to the pile. For those keeping score at home, that puts his total home purchases on the block at $72.3 million. Not bad, considering it’s about two-thirds of the reported price of the Playboy Mansion and Musk’s homes probably didn’t even come with Hef.
As of now, the properties are not contiguous, but given their proximity and Musk’s ingenuity, we’re going to bet they’ll soon be connected privately. Musk’s real estate fortunes have been tied to his on-again-off-again marriage with English actress Talulah Riley.
After the two divorced for the first time in 2012, Musk bought a $17 million home near the Bel Air Country Club. When the pair reunited in 2012, they purchased a nearby ranch that had once been owned by Gene Wilder, living in the home while they gave the main mansion a makeover, before converting the Wilder house into a private school. Two more purchases happened last year, during a tumultuous period for the couple. As of March, Riley has filed for divorce a second time.
