Johnny Bench, the Hall of Fame catcher who spent 17 seasons on the Cincinnatti Reds from 1967 to 1983, is looking to sell his waterfront mansion in South Florida this week, just two years after purchasing it from another Major Leaguer, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Matt Morris.

The Meditterrannean-style in Jupiter, Florida, sits on a half-acre plot of land in the gated Sawfish Bay Colony community. With five bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms across 7,300 square feet of interiors, the $4 million price tag is a steal for such a stately property in South Florida.

Greeting guests at the front is a carriage entrance covered in ivy, past which the brick driveway leads to a trio of garages. Entry through the foyer brings you across a marble insert in the tile and a sweeping staircase with wrought-iron railing.

Custom woodwork, stone archways and columns and coffered ceilings with patterned beam insets throughout offer a distinctly European feel, while spaces like a breakfast bar-equipped chef’s kitchen with regal cabinets, a window-rich living/dining room, a home office, a gym and a recreation room offer the utmost in livability. Outside, the swimming pool and patio overlook 100 feet of water frontage with a deepwater dock big enough for an 80-footer.

Bench, who won National League Rookie of the Year in his debut season and went on to make 14 All-Star teams, purchased the home for $3.3 million.
