German real estate tycoon Aby Rosen just picked up some headline-grabbing buyers for his forthcoming Midtown skyscraper, One Hundred East Fifty Third Street. George and Amal Clooney have reportedly entered into a pre-purchase agreement for a unit in the 63-story luxury condo.
The close proximity to the United Nations Building will make for a livable commute for Amal, the Lebanese-born human rights lawyer who frequently does work there. Last week, she made waves for hectoring the Iraqi Ambassador to the United Nations over ISIS’ human rights abuses against the Yazidi, a Kurdish religious community.
Little is known about the specific unit the Clooneys bought in the building. Prices of the 94 units range from $3.35 million to the $65 million duplex penthouse. It’s been reported that they had toured the 6,760-square-foot four-bed, four-and-a-half bath penthouse but settled on a less expensive option.
Among the building amenities are a gourmet food court on the first floor run by renowned French chef Joël Robuchon, a sauna, a 60-foot swimming pool, a fitness center, ballet and yoga rooms and a library.
The building, which is expected to be completed next year, is a slim, glassy affair designed by Foster + Partners namesake Lord Norman Foster. It sits right next door to the famous Seagram’s Building on Park Avenue.
