Designer Richard Clarkson and Crealev, a company that makes levitating products, have joined forces to create a remote-controlled, hovering cloud that plays music and flashes while floating barely off the ground.
Called the Making Weather project, the Bluetooth-powered speaker is created from clumps of white polyester fibers paired with a base featuring magnetic components that allow the device to levitate. The cloud even has the ability to bob up and down to create what Clarkson calls a “realistic atmospheric experience.”
The shape of the cloud draws inspiration from cumulus clouds that sit on the horizon, with hand-fluffed fiber groupings.
The levitating base has to remain plugged in to do its magic. But a rechargeable battery powers the built-in Bluetooth speaker and sound-reactive lighting element.
The Making Weather project is currently in a prototype phase, but Clarkson and Crealev hope the cloud speaker will be available commercially soon.
