Mercedes-Benz took to the 2016 Paris Motor Show to reveal its new electric SUV concept, almost a year after its fellow German automaker and competitor Audi showed off its E-Tron Quattro concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Dubbed the Generation EQ, the concept is part of a new Mercedes-Benz platform that will be the basis for the future of Mercedes-Benz’s electric models. The German marque has even said that the modular platform has the ability to work for all models, from SUVs to convertibles.

The design of the Generation EQ also shows off what Mercedes plans to do with the aesthetic of its electric cars. This is what Mercedes has called its “electro look,” which includes a panel of lighting elements in place of a conventional grille, cameras instead of external mirrors, and a generally more modern vibe.

Inside, Mercedes gave the Generation EQ concept a look that hasn’t been seen yet with a 24-inch widescreen infotainment system. The display generates 3D city maps powered by Here, and there is a pair of rose gold-lined touch pads—one on the steering wheel and one on the center console.

Coming with all-wheel drive, the Generation EQ makes 402 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which speeds the SUV from zero-to-62 mph in less than five seconds.

The lithium-ion battery pack is also powerful enough to offer a range of 310 miles.

Mercedes said the Generation EQ is “close to production.”
