Vienna Design Week 2016 got a bit of Midas’ touch with a new minimalistic tableware set dubbed Bols d’Or, which Austrian designer Thomas Feichtner created for silverware maker Jarosinski & Vaugoin.
The set consists of handcrafted silver pieces that have been swathed with a splash of gold. There is a bowl, a cup, and a drinking bowl in the collection.
“In a way, much like how the level of liquid appears to divide a drinking glass, these vessels are divided by their partial gold plating,” Feichtner said about the Bols d’Or set. “This aspect of their design produces an irritatingly diagonal and asymmetrical look that kicks these otherwise so similarly shaped objects a bit off balance.”
This isn’t the first time that Feichtner and Jarosinski & Vaugoin have teamed up. The designer and company also worked together on a previous joint collection that was revealed at the 2014 Vienna Design Week. That cutlery set was actually the 192nd ever produced by the Austrian company.
