When you hear Penske, you probably think one thing: automobiles. So it may come as a shock to you that the $2.5 million home to billionaire Nascar and IndyCar team owner and trucking impresario Roger Penske has only a two-car garage. Where, you might ask, does the retired professional racecar driver keep his collection of exotic cars? According to a 2012 Sports Illustrated editorial, Penske’s collection—which includes one of 30 examples of the track-only Ferrari FXX—is located in a Detroit warehouse.

No matter. The 4,607-square-foot home that Penske recently listed has plenty to love in its own right, starting with gorgeous materials that include gray stone and polished dark woods inside and out.

Past the large, heated motor court sits a contemporary-look rotunda to the left of the main entry, which features a striking grid of steel beams overhead.

An icicle-inspired chandelier and floating plank staircase greet guests at the foyer, while the open-plan living area features exposed beam ceilings, recessed lighting and a stone-faced fireplace with the kitchen off to one side. Marble counters that wrap to the floor and appliances hidden behind modern cabinetry make for a sleek look. In total, the house comes with 17 rooms, with a gym, a wine room and a sauna among them.

Penske is known as a founding father of American automotive racing. From 1960 to 1963, he won four straight Sports Car Club of America championships. The IndyCar team he founded in 1972 has won a stunning 15 Indianapolis 500 first place finishes in its nearly five decade history.
