Bentley has added a special twist to the newest iteration of its Bentayga SUV model: it’s powered by diesel.
The Bentayga Diesel is actually the first-ever diesel model manufactured by the British luxury automaker, engineered and built at Bentley’s Crewe, UK facility. However, the research for the Bentayga Diesel was described by the company as “the most exhaustive” process in their history, so it could handle a broad range of surfaces and temperatures all the way down to -22 degrees and up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.
The new diesel powerplant is a triple-charged 4.0-liter V8 engine capable of making 429 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. This means the Bentayga Diesel can do zero-to-62 mph in just 4.8 seconds and hit a speed of up to 168 mph.
The Bentayga Diesel actually creates the lowest C02 emissions of its entire current model lineup all while delivering 35.8 mpg.
Inside is an 8-inch touchscreen powering the infotainment system, and rear passengers can utilize a removable 10.2-inch Android device equipped with Bluetooth, 4G, and Wi-Fi. Other features include adaptive cruise control, park assist, electronic night vision to detect unseen objects, and a dynamic ride system that provides maximum comfort on any road surface.
Pricing for the Bentayga Diesel is still unavailable. It will be out in Europe beginning in early 2017, with deliveries to Russia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Taiwan to follow.
