Fujifilm announced at the recent Photokina that it would enter into the medium format market with its debut mirrorless camera system, the GFX series.
The first camera in the GFX line is the GFX 50S, which will come out in early 2017 and will boast a 51.4 megapixel CMOS sensor that measures 43.8 x 32.9 mm, a full 1.7 times larger than full frame sensors.
With this larger sensor Fujifilm claims its first GFX camera will give photographers the option of shooting in a wide variety of aspect ratios, including 4:3, 3:2, 1:1, 4:5, and 6:17, all while delivering premium image quality and resolution.
The rear of the camera has a monitor that can be angled, and there is a bevy of buttons to maintain optimum control of the camera. There is also a detachable viewfinder option.
With the GFX series Fujifilm will also release six G mount lenses. Joining the camera are a 63mm F4, a 32-64 mm F4 zoom, a 120 mm F4 macro, a 23 mm F4 ultra-wide, a 45 mm F2.8 standard prime, and a 110 mm F2 mid-telephoto.
No pricing has been revealed for the GFX 50S, but Fujifilm has said that it will sell for “well under $10,000,” when it comes out and will be packaged together with the aforementioned detachable viewfinder.
