Johnny Depp is on a real estate offloading spree. After re-listing his French compound earlier this year at twice the original asking price, the edgy actor has set his sights to a sale in Los Angeles. The property? A group of five penthouses located in the clocktower-equipped Eastern Columbia Building originally constructed in the art deco heyday of 1930. The ask? $12.78 million—just a bit north of two-and-a-half-million per.
Clocking in at 11,500 square feet, the still-separate homes total nine bedrooms in all, with art deco period details like carved kitchen islands, patterned wallpapers and curtains, regal chandeliers and tray light fixtures, a deep green velvet couch, a hexagonally tiled shower and colorful walls and furnishings.
More modern accents include the all-stainless kitchen appliances, a boxy starburst light fixture, industrial rails on the loft balconies and staircases and a mural by Os Gemeos, a Brazilian street artist.
A sitting room features an industrial, overdyed rug and a Moroccan-inspired leather poufe along with built-in wood shelves, while recessed built-ins, exposed brick and a sponged blue paint job give one of the home’s many bedrooms a dreamy Magritte look.
The units can be purchased separately or together, according to the listing agent. During Depp’s tenure, three of the units were allocated for living while one was set up as an art studio and another was used as a guest suite.
He originally got hold of the condos in a series of sales between 2007 and 2008 for a total of $7.2 million.
