Before she was ever a Kennedy, Jackie Bouvier was a member of a well-heeled French-Canadian clan based in the Hamptons. Now, the former First Lady’s childhood home in East Hampton has come to market for $53.99 million. The current owner, Reed Krakof, was formerly the creative director of luxury leather goods company Coach.
Krakof, who purchased the estate in 2007 before commencing a renovation on the main home, has listed the estate as two separate parcels: the larger plot includes the nearly 2,600-square-foot house, known as “Lasata,” and will run a cool $38.995 million, while a separate four-acre plot with a grass tennis court is going for $14.995 million.
With a heated swimming pool, a two-bed pool house and a one-bedroom guesthouse—in addition to ten bedrooms of its own—the home can comfortably fit nearly any party as well as staff, and there are a trio of sun rooms, with walls of windows and breezy plank and lattice ceilings, for that effervescent Hamptons feel.
A charmingly simple foyer features yellow patterned wallpaper, herringbone hardwood, a sweeping staircase and a romantic chandelier, while the kitchen has an efficient air, with all-stainless counters, a farmhouse sink and low-hanging light fixtures, as well as a breakfast nook looking out a window. White built-in shelves and tray light fixtures in the formal dining room give an easy vibe, in spite of the seating for 12 (counting a window-side table).
The home was owned by Caroline Kennedy and her husband Edwin Schlossberg until they sold it in 2006.
