One more human of New York has a lovely West Chelsea garden apartment this week. Brandon Stanton, the photographer whose “Humans of New York” Facebook page became an international sensation, spawning a pair (thus far) of No. 1 New York Times bestsellers and earning him a spot on Time’s “30 Under 30 World Changers” list, paid $2.45 million for the ground-level unit he’ll share with fiancée Erin O’Sullivan.
Located in an 1850s-built townhouse on what was once known as Millionaire’s Row, the apartment features a double-height living room with a wood-burning fireplace and a lofted balcony office over the tiled dining room. The multi-level backyard has a stone patio with room for multiple seating areas, garden beds and a postal stamp of lawn that’s practically a golf course by lower Manhattan real estate standards.
There’s also a front-facing library with a washer and dryer, two bathrooms and two bedrooms—one of which includes track lighting and a hardwood floor.
Stanton, who grew up in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, began the Humans of New York project in 2010, building a following of 17.8 million Facebook fans and an extra 5.7 million on Instagram.
Inspired by the dog Stanton adopted off of a portrait subject in 2011, O’Sullivan founded Susie’s Senior Dogs, a non-profit focused on the adoption of elderly dogs.
