Normally, interior art doesn’t enter the realm of kitchenware, but Marcel Wanders’ new Carnival-themed collection for Alessi takes the cake when it comes to unique offerings for the kitchen.
Using the magic of the classic big top-look of circuses and carnivals, Wanders has created his series of 29 tableware pieces and five limited-number Officina Alessi ornamental items.
With stainless steel as a base, this tableware adds a bit of flair with various whimsical patterns and diamonds or stripes in the yellow, red, and even black colors that pop into the sky as a circus tent.
The five limited-edition items take on the form of functional archetypal characters seen at any circus. There is a “Strongman” that serves as a nutcracker, a baby elephant “Ballerina” that is a musical box, a “Jester” come to life in the form of a corkscrew, a “Ringleader” who finds new work as a call bell, and a clown dubbed “Candyman” that brings smiles as a candy dispenser.
Wanders’ collection debuted at the London Design Festival that runs from September 17th through the 25th and is exclusively available at the UK-based luxury store Harrods.
