It is a truth universally acknowledged that you can check out of the Hotel California any time you like, but you can never leave. The Los Angeles home of Eagles bassist Timothy Schmit had no such clause, however. He sold the Spanish-style residence last week for $1.9 million.
Located in the Whitley Heights neighborhood, the tree-shielded, 1924-built multi-level has nearly 3,500 square feet of living space with cultured touches such as imported windows and doors from Morocco and India, an Italianate barrel-rolled ceiling and a stuccoed fireplace in the formal living room and French doors off the bathroom and living room that lead to terraces with a vaguely Bahamian affect.
Other living spaces include two formal dining rooms—one with arched entries and the other distinguished by its bright red paint job—a sea green bathroom, a home office and a pair of kitchens—one with a stainless steel utility sink, a dishwasher and exposed beam ceilings—and the other a bit more classic, with black-and-white checked tile and white cabinets.
Black and white subway tiles adorn the home’s three other bathrooms, and of the four bedrooms, the obvious standout is the master suite, which features a carved wooden closet.
Schmit has owned the home since 2009, paying a titch over $1.5 million for it.
He joined the eagles in 1977 and sang the lead part on “I Can’t Tell You Why” from their 1979 album The Long Run. In 2013, he was voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with the rest of the band.
