You may know Julia Louis-Dreyfus from her iconic role as Elaine Benes on Seinfeld or as Vice-President Selina Meyer on HBO’s Veep, or perhaps even from her five seasons leading the cast of The New Adventures of Old Christine, but the 55-year-old actress also has another claim to fame: as a member of the well-to-do Louis-Dreyfus clan.
In 1851, Julia’s grandfather Léopold Louis-Dreyfus founded a commodities and shipping conglomerate in France that today makes up about 10% of the world’s agricultural product flow. In the early 1900s, the family’s holdings were considered one of the “five great fortunes of France,” and the company is still in family hands after 165 years. It was chaired by Julia’s billionaire father William until recently.
Now, William’s wife—and Julia’s stepmother—Phyllis is looking to move on from her Fifth Avenue co-op, with an asking price of $19 million, after buying another apartment in the building for $8.95 million last month.
The twelve-room apartment includes a vaulted foyer, five bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, an adorably tiled kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a breakfast nook, a wood-paneled formal dining room and floral prints as far as the eye can see.
The spacious great room has four windows with views of Central Park and an antique fireplace, and there’s also a second living room. While the place has loads of antique-y charm, for the price, we’re betting the new owner will want to give it a bit of an update.
