Light a candle or sixteen for Molly Ringwald’s East Village duplex. The ‘80s heartthrob unloaded her charming if modest pad last week after listing it back in June for $1.795 million. The buyers, a Polish prince and his wife, got the Pretty in Pink star to knock off $95,000 bringing the sale price to an even $1.7 mill.
Ringwald and husband Panio Gianopoulos bought the Renwick Triangle apartment back in 2004 shortly after daughter Mathilda was born, but when Ringwald gave birth to twins Adele and Roman in 2009, it became a bit small for the family’s needs. In recent years, they’d been using it as a getaway from their Santa Monica home.
The front door of the New York apartment opens to a living room that’s all about the wood. It features hardwood floors, wood-framed windows and a marble-mantled fireplace that burns—you guessed it—wood.
The eat-in kitchen is large by lower Manhattan standards and includes white and frosted glass cabinets as well as a built-in bookshelf in the dining area. A strikingly similar bookshelf sits at the entrance of the master bed, which includes a pair of letterbox windows, and the contemporary bathroom features subway tile walls.
A tasteful renovation of the home—located atop a 19th-century townhouse on East 10th Street—maintained historic touches like the 10-inch beam ceilings and exposed brick, and the new owners will also enjoy access to a roof deck perfect for barbecues.
Ringwald has been working opposite 90210 alum Jason Priestley this year as perfectionist parents on a Canadian sitcom called Raising Expectations.
