The NBA’s leading shot-blocker, Hassan Whiteside, got a big payday this offseason, scoring $98 million over four years when he re-signed with the Miami Heat, and now the 7-foot center will have plenty of room to stretch out. He just dropped $7.3 million on a waterfront home in Miami Beach and, yes, the ceilings are quite tall.

The 5,406-square-foot contemporary is located in the La Gorce neighborhood with 85 feet of frontage just across the water from the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc hotels, and counts a private dock among its many luxe amenities. Walls of windows let in lagoon and canal views, while the modern form pool sits on an enormous covered terrace along with a contemporary bar, a summer kitchen and a cabana.

The front includes a sleek-lined carport beneath a glass-encased balcony, while a large, patterned concrete wall divides the primary mass from tiers further back, penetrating past the entry into the open plan living area. The gourmet kitchen includes center island seating and a navy and white theme with appliances colored to blend into the dark blue wall.

Among its six bedrooms is a master suite with wide plank floorboards, a walk-in closet with plenty of room for shoe storage (a must for an NBA player) and a bathroom with a frameless glass rain shower and sliding-door entry to a balcony with a soaking tub.

The home was listed as high as $13 million since being built in 2014.

Whiteside, who has played for eight separate teams since college—including teams in Lebanon and China—is likely to see more action than ever next year after the departure of Heat Star Dwyane Wade.
