AMG is the high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz—they independently engineer, manufacture, and customize Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and their roster is impressive. The latest addition is the GLC43 Coupe, a fastback crossover that appeals to drivers who want the most of the utility of a compact SUV with a sportier look—and now with some added performance.
Like other AMG—Mercedes-Benz crossovers, the GLC43 can be thought of as a tweener model that bridges the gap between the normal production Mercedes and the full-bore AMGs. This vehicle features the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from the regular Mercedes-AMG GLC43 crossover, a roaring machine that generates 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. There’s an AMG-tuned 4Matic all-wheel-drive system that is rear-biased and a quick-shifting nine-speed (!) automatic transmission, which powers the coupe from 0 to 60 in just 4.8 seconds.
Elsewhere, the AMG GLC43 matches up with the classic Mercedes version. Larger brakes have four-piston fixed calipers at the front and one-piston floating calipers at the rear, while the exterior has the complete AMG appearance package, which looks particularly killer in all-black. AMG has amplified the Air Body Control suspension system—it now boasts selectable modes and can also lift the crossover to provide ground clearance for some light off-roading. The interior has sport seats with black MB-Tex and Dinamica microfiber with red stitching, matching red seat belts, and a meaty flat-bottomed, multifunction steering wheel with the same color combination.
The sporty, swoopy GLC43 Coupe will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on September 28th and will be available in the US early next year.
