Whether it’s the Amazon Echo, the JBL Flip 3, or the Bose SoundLink, the main problem with most wireless speakers is sound quality. Not so with the Whyd Speaker. With multiple Class-D amplifiers, four 40 mm full range drivers, and a powerful 100 mm subwoofer, the Whyd delivers the flexible functionality of other wireless speakers with that hard-to-find high-quality sound that most of its competitors lack.

Like the Echo, the Whyd Speaker is voice-controlled, although it also boasts an elegant and intuitive touch interface—users can tap on the glass touch panel to play a song, swipe to go next, zoom with two fingers to increase volume, and more. It connects to all major streaming services via WiFi, Bluetooth, or AirPlay. There’s also an iOS and Android companion app that will allow you to setup and control your speaker remotely.

As a company, Whyd has thought a lot about design, and it shows. They’ve strived to create something beautiful and pure but with a “touch of human presence.” The egg-shaped speaker has an organic, ergonomic design, and comes in primary colors—blue, red, and yellow—plus black and white options. The four drivers are spaced equidistant from each other to deliver 360-degree sound, and each features a neodymium magnet and an aluminum diaphragm, while the integrated subwoofer has long excursion suspension and ferrite magnet for deep, sustained bass tones. The speaker’s high fidelity frequency response rests at 35Hz-20KHz, and its front is encased in a proprietary soft cloth developed at Whyd’s Grand Rapids, Michigan facility—the result of years of U.S. knitting savoir-faire and craftsmanship.

If you purchase two Whyd speakers, they can be linked to make a stereo pair, and at the low cost of $500, that option is eminently affordable.
