In 1884, Greek silversmith Sotirio Bulgari opened his first jewelry store in Rome. With passion, skill, and vision, he set the stage for his surname to become synonymous with artisanal craftsmanship, avant-garde design, and high-quality materials. One-hundred and thirty-two years later, the latest offering from the Bulgari company, the brand new Carbon Gold watch, upholds its founder’s legacy.
The casual-chic timepiece is perfect for late summer, with a bespoke mix of carbon, calfskin, and precious metals. The steel case is coated in carbon, with a mechanical B77 dial that can be decked in black, brown, or blue, and is accented by 18-carat pink gold-plated hour markers. The dial is powered by automatic winding backed up by a 42-hour power reserve. Its minute hash marks are luminescent, allowing you to tell the time even in low-light environments. Other touches include the manufacturer’s name etched around the bezel, and the year of Bulgari’s founding—1884—engraved on the 18-carat pink gold plate. The softtouch calfskin leather strap is a braid that is reminiscent of the 1975 Bulgari Roma; it fastens with an ardillon buckle with a bold, black diamond-like carbon treatment.
Befitting the company’s origins as a jewelry store, the Carbon Gold sports 21 jewels in its 40-millimeter case. It measures 25.6 millimeters in diameter and is water-resistant up to 30 meters with a price tag of $2,800.
