It’s been more than six years since the widely-publicized split between Mel Gibson and his Russian paramour, Oksana Grigorieva, but the fallout continues to linger. But one chapter is soon to come to a close: a Sherman Oaks home that the Braveheart actor purchased for the singer-songwriter has hit the market for $2.575 million.
Gibson, who has a child with Grigorieva, originally purchased the home in 2009 for a shade under $2.4 million. Under the terms of a 2011 custody settlement, Grigorieva and the couple’s then-three-year-old daughter were allowed to live in the home until the daughter turned 18. The former couple nixed that plan in favor of a new arrangement, agreed to earlier this month, under which Grigorieva will receive an extra $10,000 in child support a month—bringing her total per month payments to approximately $30,000—in exchange for agreeing to a reduction of the remaining settlement amount and vacating the Sherman Oaks property. Grigorieva filed for personal bankruptcy in 2014 after violating the terms of the original settlement agreement by mentioning Gibson during a “Howard Stern Show” appearance.
The 3500-square-foot Sherman Oaks home is in the classic Prairie School style, most notably favored by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It features decorative and stained glass windows and skylights, mahogany built-ins, and stone accents throughout. The open living room has a fireplace, an oversized center-island kitchen, a formal dining room, a library. There are four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, and French doors that open onto a landscaped courtyard boasting a contemporary fountain, a covered patio with a stacked-stone fireplace, and manicured lawns.
Gibson, 60, is best-known as the action hero of the Mad Max and Lethal Weapon films, as well for directing, producing, writing, and funding The Passion of the Christ. He won a pair of Oscars in 1996 for Braveheart.
Grigorieva, 46, is known for writing the song “Un día llegará” on Josh Groban’s 2006 album Awake. She released her first and only studio album, Beautiful Heartache, in 2009.
