In the words of creative director Rob Dickinson, Singer Vehicle Design was founded to “explore creative possibilities in classic vehicle design.” Since 2009, their obsession has been to develop a meticulously restored, air-cooled retro Porsche 911. These aren’t mere restorations, though—the company fully reimagines the iconic sports car, transforming it into something out of a road warrior’s dream. And their latest rollouts—an orange Targa (nicknamed Luxemburg) and a gray coupe (nicknamed Minnesota), both of which debuted at the Quail Motorsports Gathering, are their most jaw-dropping yet.
Both vehicles belong to the same unnamed (but very lucky) owner. The Luxemburg is painted a tawny burnt orange color, but the most eye-catching details are the custom leather interiors. The seats are swathed in a bold seven-color weave (two oranges, four blues, and one cream), which extends to the dash and door panels. The roof panel is carbon fiber on the outside and a deep blue canvas on the inside, but the move here is to retract it, anyway—all the better to enjoy the rich purr of the rear-mounted, 4.0-liter, air-cooled, flat-six engine.
The Minnesota is more conservative, but no less stylish. Dressed up in a deep gunmetal gray paint job, the 350-horsepower coupe has a rich, brown leather interior, and a 3.8-liter air-cooled engine built by Cosworth.
Singer was founded in 2009 by Dickinson, a 51-year-old self-effacing Englishman with an interesting past: in the 90s, he was the frontman of the popular shoegaze band Catherine Wheel. When he opted to indulge his lifelong love for the Porsche 911, he named his company after his former profession and in honor of the renowned Porsche engineer, Norbert Singer.
