Steve Levitan, the creator, producer, and director of “Modern Family,” has placed his long-time Los Angeles home on the market. Levitan and his estranged wife, Krista, who are in the midst of a divorce, are hoping to get $10.995 million for the Brentwood mansion they bought for $1.55 million 20 years ago.

Located in the plum Brentwood area of L.A., the New England Traditional-style house has five bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms over 8,609 square feet—which qualifies as a humble abode for someone of Levitan’s stature in the industry. The home is located in a gated subdivision behind a thicket of trees. It has unassuming touches—note the basketball hoop affixed above the garage—but once you step inside, there’s no doubting the home’s high-class provenance. The formal living room dazzles with high ceilings, glossy wood floors, and French doors. The family room, located in the anterior of the house, opens onto a tree-ringed backyard with a trellis-covered terrace and a swimming pool and has custom built-ins including a bar area and mirror-backed shelves. Square fluted columns separate it from a kitchen/dining area dominated by a double-wide center island topped with butcher block counter tops. There’s also a wood-paneled library/office—books not included, unfortunately—and a second family room on the upper level, joined by the master suite. Downstairs in the basement, there’s a spacious media/game room and a gym.

Steve Levitan brings home a reported $2.4 million each month. His company, Steven Levitan Productions, has also produced the shows Just Shoot Me!, Stark Raving Mad, and Greg the Bunny. In 1996, Levitan won an Emmy in 1996 for Frasier, of which he was a writer and producer. No word on how the Levitans will split up their other properties: they also own an oceanfront mansion in Malibu and a farmhouse-style mansion constructed earlier this year in Santa Monica.
