Swedish design firm Claesson Koivisto Rune has created a unique new seating collection for Italian furniture manufacturer Arflex.
What makes the Bonsai Collection different is its mixture of inspiration. While it features undeniable Italian influences, the line also introduces various Japanese aesthetics to create an entirely new look. Customers will particularly be drawn to Bonsai’s soft curving lines that are easily reminiscent of the shrubs and bushes found in Japanese gardens.
Just like the plants that are so meticulously cared for, each of the pieces in the Bonsai line has been masterfully designed with shape in mind. The cloud-like forms have been set on low, rectangular wooden bases to form a nontraditional sofa that’s complemented with a matching pouf.
Customers can also opt for an integrated lamp that features a flowing fabric shade and a recessed stone plate, which would be perfectly paired with a plant or stack of books.
Each upholstered seat is crafted from moulded polyurethane foam and is set on simple legs or a platform that comes in wood or painted wengé.
