After an extended search, Ina Garten and her husband Jeffrey have locked down a 2,450-square-foot Upper East Side apartment for $4.65 million. Garten, television’s Barefoot Contessa, will be very excited about one room in particular: the kitchen, which the residence’s Street Easy listing noted is “perfect for an enthusiastic cook.”
Add to that the fact that, according to the literature, the home is “near some of the best casual and formal restaurants on the Upper East Side”—including, on the formal end, the impeccable French cuisinery Daniel; the famous Regency Bar & Grill; and the power broker favorite BLT Steak—and you’ve got the perfect pad for a pair of foodies.
Other living areas in the two-bedroom, three-bath co-op at 563 Park Avenue include an enormous open living room (with space for two sitting areas and a grand piano), a large library and a fun, salmon-colored dining room. Exposed white beams, 10-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, room-by-room temperature control and a trio of fireplaces are some of the standout details.
In the kitchen, chic striped counters are joined by all-stainless everything in the appliance department, with a center island topped by a bird’s-nest hanging light. The previous owners were Nancy Novogrod—the former editor-in-chief at Travel & Leisure—and her husband John.
The Gartens also own an apartment at 71 East 77th Street, about a mile Manhattan-north. Mr. Garten is the Dean Emeritus of Yale’s School of Management, where his focus is on global economics. Prior to Mrs. Garten’s career as a celebrity chef, she worked in the Office of Management and Budget at the White House.
