American luxury automakers like Cadillac and Lincoln seemed to fall behind the times over the past couple of decades while car brands in Europe pushed the lines of what making a lavish vehicle meant.
But over the past few years, this notion could no longer be supported thanks to a flurry of concept vehicles that are bringing opulent American cars into modernity and beyond.
This is especially true with Cadillac’s Escala Concept, which was on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Escala, which is Spanish for “scale,” is a new concept that gives car fans a clear indication of where the Detroit-based company plans to take its cars. And despite already featuring a large sedan in its arsenal, the range-topping CT6, Cadillac’s Escala Concept would fall above it in its current lineup, giving way to the adage, bigger is better.
The Escala boasts a wheelbase that is six inches larger than that of the CT6, and while half a foot may not seem like much when it comes to Subway sandwiches, it is plenty of extra space for whoever is riding in the Escala.
Cadillac crammed as much technology and style as it could to the inside the Escala Concept, even taking out the classic instrument cluster on the dash in favor of three OLED screens that are all backed with stitched leather to blend classic grandeur with modern needs. The Escala also boasts voice and gesture control features.
Power comes from a twin-turbo, 4.2-liter V8 engine with cylinder deactivation, but there are no specs for the concept.
