Peter Gallagher may be best known for his starring turn as Sandy Cohen in Fox’s The O.C., but the salt-and-pepper actor—who celebrated his 61st birthday on Friday—has actually spent much of his time in Los Angeles County a few ticks north, though it looks like he’s trying to change that.
The actor and his wife Paula Harwood listed their airy Los Angeles residence for $6 million in February and have recently cut the price to $5.25 million. They purchased the place in 2007 for about $3 million.
Located behind security gates in a densely forested lot in Brentwood, the 5,225-square-foot home includes six bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths as well as a second-floor guest wing with its own family room and kitchen. High ceilings, blond hardwood, skylights and a large balcony with beautiful views of the mature foliage give the place a vibrant treehouse feel, while a number of fireplaces drive home the coziness factor.
Paver stones on the terrace and an angular concrete poolscape contribute to the tropical-modern vibe of the backyard, which is mirrored indoor by juxtapositions like frameless showers in cedar-paneled bathrooms and stainless steel appliances married with wicker light installations in the kitchen.
Other features include a private den, an open tread staircase, a media lounge with built-in shelves and a balcony, as well as a master suite that opens to the backyard and includes an oversized walk-in closet. The real treat here is the foliage, though, executed by landscape architect Jay Griffith.
The Gallaghers also maintain a barn residence on 20 acres of property in New Milford, Connecticut. They purchased that home in April 2004 for $420,000.
