Designer Stella McCartney continued her joint effort with Adidas to create the outfits specially worn by the athletes for Great Britain as they took part in the Opening Ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
After a successful tenure as the creative director for Team Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics and ensuing Paralympic Games, McCartney was asked to recreate her original magic with a new set of uniforms for the Olympics’ first trip to South America.
The design features a blue-and-white color palette of GB’s classic Union Jack flag, complete with a brand new coat of arms on the back.
The special coat of arms was created to represent the different parts of the British isles, featuring not just the iconic Lion of England, but also a rose, laurel leaf, and flax that blend together and represent unity between the different factions of where the members of Team Great Britain reign from.
The men earned a navy pea coat with the new coat of arms on the back. Meanwhile, the women wore a blue dress crafted from a high-quality sportswear material with a white jacket with the coat of arms on the back.
