Marv Albert, known to NBA on TNT fans as “the voice of basketball,” just locked down a penthouse apartment in 5 Franklin Place, the swanky Tribeca building that finished construction last year. The 4,410-square-foot pad cost the long-time sportscaster a cool $10.3 million. It includes four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms and a terrace of more than 600 square feet.
It’s one of 53 apartments in the 20-story building developed by the Elad Group and designed by the architects at ODA New York with interiors by Andres Escobar & Associates. The apartment itself includes an open floor plan with five-inch plank hardwood flooring, hand-laid marble in the bathrooms and an open chef’s kitchen with Poggenpohl cabinets, a Bosch stove, a dishwasher and a Subzero refrigerator.
Among the building’s many plush amenities are a landscaped roof deck with cabanas and a swimming pool with spa, a fitness center, a kid’s playroom, valet parking and a 24-hour doorman located in a soaring lobby replete with reading material in its ceiling-height bookshelves.
Albert seems to have a thing for New York City penthouses. In 2014, he made almost $15 million on the sale of his penthouse apartment near Lincoln Center. He’d lived there for nearly 20 years. He has called six Super Bowls, seven Stanley Cup finals, a number of Wimbledon championships and has served as the lead play-by-play announcer for NBA on TNT since 1999. His net worth has been estimated at around $25 million. Not bad for a guy who started out as a New York Knicks ball boy.
