South Korean lens manufacturer Samyang may have just unveiled its brand new 35mm f/1.2 lenses for mirrorless APS-C cameras, but now the company has introduced its new 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC lens designed for full-frame cameras.
Just like its 35mm equivalent, the 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC is a manual focus lens that’s available in both photo and film options.
Both lens versions feature 13 optical elements in 12 groups, including two aspherical and three extra-low diversion elements, which are specially created to limit chromatic aberration and needless light dispersion. These features ensure photogs will capture an image that’s sharp from edge to edge.
Available in Canon EOS, Nikon AE, Pentax K, Sony Alpha, Canon M, Fujifilm X, Sony E, Samsung NX, FT, and MFT mounts, buyers will also enjoy a 0.2-meter minimum focusing distance and a seven-blade aperture diaphragm.
The film version of the 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC lens will sport a “de-clicked” aperture ring for smoother and quieter transitions. It also utilizes a larger focusing ring with unified gears for use with follow-focus rigs.
Set to hit stores this September, the photo version of the 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC will be available for around $550, and the film edition should run buyers an extra $50.
